 Repairs | Nikon Service FAQs

Do I have to send my camera or other equipment in to you for repair myself or will my local dealer do this for me?
Most dealers will be more than happy to handle the repair for you and this may be the easiest option, particularly if the item is still within the period of warranty. However, please be aware that if outside the warranty period the dealer will make his own arrangements regarding where the camera will be sent and we cannot comment on repairs carried out by other repairers, or any charges made by the dealer, regardless of the repair agent they have used.

My camera is under warranty, do I have to pay the carriage costs for the camera to be returned for repair?
If you return your camera to the dealer from whom it was purchased they should send it for repair at no cost to yourself. If you decide to return the equipment directly to us you will be liable for the postage costs incurred by doing so. Once completed, we will return a warranty repair to any UK or Ireland address at our expense.

Do I need to get a reference number before sending the item for repair?
No, just return it to us with a copy of this completed form . We will issue a reference number (“request ID”) when the item is booked into our service system. Make a note of the camera’s serial number before sending, this can be used to trace the item in the case of any enquiry before the acknowledgement is received.

Do Nikon authorise any other repairers to carry out repairs on Nikon products?
Yes, there are several Nikon authorised repairers across the UK and one in Ireland. Technicians at these facilities are Nikon trained, and can also carry out warranty repairs. However, these repairers are completely independent from Nikon and we would suggest contacting them for details of their policies, procedures and repair pricing structures.

I do not reside in the UK or Ireland, may I still send my camera to Nikon UK for repair?
Yes, but we will charge an appropriate charge for return of the camera, regardless or whether or not the camera is covered by the terms of the warranty. It may be preferable to return the equipment to a service agent in, or near, your country of residence. Please see our worldwide offices and distributors - you should find one well-placed to provide details of repair agents in your area.

I live in the UK, but my camera is not covered by warranty within the European region, can I still send it to Nikon UK for repair?
Yes, but repairs will be chargeable.

Do Nikon charge for providing an estimate?
Not as such, but if an estimate is requested and later declined, a refusal fee of £6.50 may be incurred (plus vat & return carriage charges of £5.95). The refusal charge will not apply if the camera is estimated based on our standard/fixed pricing scheme, but return carriage as above will be charged in these cases.

Can I request an estimate over the telephone or via email, instead of sending the camera?
Most of our compact cameras are covered by a standard/fixed pricing scheme, details of which can be obtained by contacting our service department. For other types of equipment, estimates will be based upon examination only. We reserve the right to provide a re-estimate later, should further examination deem this to be necessary. No refusal charge will be incurred if a re-estimate is declined.

How is my equipment returned to me?
In most cases items are returned by courier for next day delivery. The equipment will be insured for transit and a signature will be required on delivery. Unfortunately we are unable to specify a time for the delivery.
